Those are labelled clearly and are nowhere near as ambiguous as whatever the Xbox's buttons mean.Nintendo switch afterglow wired controller not working controllers > Basic controller settings colour, or turn off the on. Nintendo's had "Start" and "Select" too, except for the Wii (which had + and - buttons).

Yet I never see third-party controllers that use XABY, for some reason, despite the DS being the best-selling portable console since the Game Boy, and it being used for the Switch too.Īs for the middle buttons.how the hell am I supposed to know what "three lines" and "box on top of another box" are supposed to mean, and do? PlayStation has had clearly-labelled "Start" and "Select" buttons until the PS4, where they changed it to "Share" and "Options". The latter screws up my muscle memory, and is thus inherently inferior. These sticks are far more comfortable than unaligned sticks.Īs for the lettered buttons, Nintendo's had XABY (clockwise from the top) since the DS, and that's what I'm used to - not YBAX. They are not diagonally and weirdly placed. VerdictĬlick to expand.PlayStation controllers, the Wii Classic Controller, the Wii U GamePad and the Wii U Pro Controller all have aligned sticks - sticks that are on the same horizontal plane. For console ports on PC, this is the best controller I've used. I mean, it's ugly, sure, but there are other designs available if you're not into the transparent look. Overall, I'm very happy with this controller. Furthermore, I'm not a huge fan of the D-pad, even if I think it's actually better than the official Xbox One controller. I don't personally mind the wire, but the fact that it's MicroUSB, a connector I have many grievances with, somewhat dampens my impressions. This controller is strictly wired, connecting to your PC or Xbox One using a Micro USB cable. The disadvantages here should be obvious. I'm not worried about it breaking anytime soon, the quality is just so good. I can squeeze and try to bend this thing pretty hard, without any creaking or movement. The buttons feel good, the bumpers feel as you'd expect, and the analogue triggers are smooth.įurther to the outstanding ergonomics, the build quality is sound. I've been playing some Sleeping Dogs lately, and I've never enjoyed the controls so much. I thought this was a bummer, but I haven't had any discomfort at all. Let's get this out of the way the joysticks aren't rubberised. Hell, even the built-in headphone jack works flawlessly. Some other controllers require special configuration for use on PC, needing to use the Steam interface to function well.

Being an Xbox controller, of course, it's one of the most compatible controllers out there. No longer do I suffer the usual 'wrong icons for the controller' issue. When it comes to functionality, though, this is probably one of the best controllers I've used on PC. I'm wondering if part of why I love it so much is due to accurate button icons in games. I'm also not a fan of this Blu-Merang colour, but that's a personal preference. They have a clear shell, which allows you to see the internals, but it's not nearly as appealing as a solid colour in my opinion. I think the old-school Nintendo consoles pulled it off thanks to their frosted appearance, but PDP hasn't taken this approach. Unfortunately, I don't think these Rock Candy controllers are easy on the eyes.

Full disclaimer here, I do not have an Xbox One. Luckily, Xbox One controllers have excellent compatibility with Windows 10, so I can give it a fair review regardless. PDP has sent us their Blu-Merang Xbox One controller to review, and it has certainly surpassed my expectations.
